Avi Previewer 2.31

Avi Previewer should be able to fix corrupted AVI files. If you have a video file that was incompletely downloaded or is damaged, you could try to use this software to fix it. I was not very impressed with Avi Previewer.

The user interface is very easy to use due to the fact that it only has a couple of buttons. You can add or remove files to a special list and then fix them all with a simple click. It’s also possible to scan the files for errors. The program reports any errors it finds in a status panel which is positioned at the bottom.

As I said, I was not impressed with this software. I tested it using a 20 MB video file that was cut off from a bigger video in a hex-editor. I cut the first part of the file, because that’s where all the properties of the video are recorded. I tried playing the incomplete file with KMPlayer, and it worked. The only problem was that the time wasn’t correctly shown. After fixing it with Avi Previewer, the time problem was resolved. Next, I tried stripping the middle part of a video. KMPlayer still played it until it reached that part. I processed the file with Avi Previewer, hoping that the last part of the video which was still there can be recovered. Well… it wasn’t.
