The application looks and performs remarkably similar with the AMCap utility which is bundled with certain TV tuners. The publisher recommends DivX for encoding video files. However, I tried the program with the FFDShow codec, and it worked very well. Please be aware that Open Video Capture doesn’t come with any built-in codecs, so you have to install them on your own.
You should also know that the trial version only records one minute of video. There’s a message that tells you this when starting the program. I myself didn’t notice it at first, so I was dazzled why the program stops exactly after one minute.

In conclusion: The words “simple user interface” are reinvented by this software. If you need a simple program for capturing video, Open Video Capture may be the solution.
